Notes on hiking, film photography and slow travel.
Three days on the Wicklow Way
Left the car at the trailhead just before six. The mist sat in the hollows until nine, then lifted all at once, the way it does out there. Two rolls of Portra, one of them almost certainly overexposed.
The hostel keeper said the stream below the ridge had gone dry three weeks earlier than last year. Carried four litres on the second day and still ran short.
On carrying a light meter again
Went back to a handheld meter after two seasons of guessing. Sunny sixteen works until it does not, and on the open ground the light is flat for hours and then brutal for twenty minutes.
A note about the archive
Scans from 2019 onward are slowly going up. Everything older lives in boxes and will probably stay there. The index is handmade, so expect gaps.
